Thanks for the reply. To keep it simple (at least I think it's simpler) I just painted polygons in Maya with a lambert material that was only color. When I Export from Maya with OpenCollada (Checked: Default File Extensions Preserve References Relative Paths Triangulate Copy Textures Static Curve Removal Polygon Meshes Texture Coords Vertex Colors Referenced Materials Only) The collada file doesn't reference any .iff files or other images. Also, there is no library_images node in the collada file.
