Disagree with you on Unity. It depends what kind of app you need to develop, If you are after somthing like "interstellar marines" that looks very close to AAA games of today or you need to develop some other top quality/perfotrmance 3d content , in this case Unity is one of the cheapest solutions out there . Thing about it : To licence the UnrealEngine juat for one project (with the source code included) may cost you some $300000. Unity is still not UE. But it is so powerful and their upcoming version have made incredible progress concerning new features that when I think about it , one day not to far from now they will be one of those titans . Now, the real problem as others here have said is player penetration if you target the web. But If you go for standalone , IPHONE , and the rest Unity is the cheapest in comparison to what you get for that price. I made few demos for the company I work for with Unity (standalone ) And it is just incredible in all aspects .
