no, it doesn't. it has different entry points to the same one master list. i have beef with that on many counts, but you know that, b/c i've said all this before. i should be able to toggle art anywhere. i should be able to on the fly browse artists OR AA OR both. (something that jim said he liked) i should be able to set up multiple views, aka libraries, based on criteria i choose, which could present subsets of the files, such as by folder location, genre, year, etc... or combos thereof. i shouldn't have to pick home>artists or home>albums or home>genre, b/c i should be able to get ANY of those sort methods from inside whatever view i happen to be in. It can only ever end up in anarchy. It may work for some people > with simplistic views of their music collection. i really think you don't understand what i am saying or suggesting. lets say you had one view based on a specific folder location that was a subset of your files. using my suggestion, you could sort that view any way you wanted: albums, year artist, albums album artist, years genre, artist composer, title WHATEVER! if you wanted albums to only appear once, then just start the sort with albums. if you want artists to only appear once, start with artists, etc... you lose NOTHING with my suggestion. you gain however a tremendous amount! How would I discover a set of albums that have Christmas > songs? well, first of all with my custom views, you could create a view where only tracks with "Christmas" in a genre tag are in the results list, and sort from there. but even if you didn't do that, if you used a default view of all tracks, you could sort by genres and scroll to see all the christmas tracks together in the list, and sort from there. there is no problem making this work. Philip Meyer;600500 Wrote: > > >it FLAT OUT SUCKS. > > > No, you just don't understand. what don't i understand? look, thats my opinion. and obviously, if it was so great, Jim wouldn't have posted what he put in this thread, and erland wouldn't have said what he said, and even you wouldn't use "custom browse" if SBS was so awesome. WMP = AA tags. Winamp = AA tags. itunes = Comp tags. lot fo others do one or the other or both. do you deny its below 90% of the marketplace? if so, thats delusional. logic. its a bitch. and even you use AA tags when you need to. you couldn't use SBS properly or get a proper view of your collection without AA tags on SOME stuff. (for those without AA tags, they simply would let the current SBS logic figure out their AA values, or choose not to sort that way) -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 & sbc (my home) / sbrec & ipeng (parents' home) - sbs 7.5.3b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - p4(ht) 3.2ghz, 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 - 45k+ mp3 ::VOTE FOR 'BUG 15604' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15604)!!!:: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84475 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
