SBS can be configured to do the same.

Implementation-specific internal content. i.e. If SBS scanner didn't report
post-processing (it just reported time to scan), no-one would know or question
the need for the post-process steps. Who's to say that other apps don't do
some post-processing stuff too, eg. iTunes scanning a library decides to group
or not group based on compilation tag, album artist tag, etc. But it doesn't
report what it is doing when scanning files.

i.e. I believe that the scanner only applies merging of various artists for
albums that haven't got compilation or album artist tags. So if one of those
tags were always present on all songs, there's no work to do to tidy up. Other
post-processing is to remove stuff that doesn't exist any more. i.e. if
scanning for new/changed files, it also has to delete things that don't need to
be there any more. Other apps also need to do that (apart from iTunes doesn't
bother, and it just whinges if you try to browse/play something that doesn't
exist).

Yes, and it doesn't mean that it can't work like other apps - in that it will
use Album Artist and Compilation tags if they are present.
