Yes, if the parameters of the O2 sensor control circuit are reached, it will
set a light.

Basically, if the DME is leaning out the mixture as much as it can, but your
manual override of the fuel pressure has the car still running rich, a CE
light will set.

Thank you Gary. I have saved your notes from our prior conversations on
this topic; they remain a valuable reference. A correctly burned custom
chip is very much the planned end result. Short of a $1000+ unichip
session, no one has really been able to tell me *what* that new chip ought
to consist of.

Soooo...I concur tinkering with the FP is the wrong approach. Consider it
more a short term tactic to see how changes in the FP modify (help/hurt) the
car's behavior. At the moment, I'm more in "data gathering mode" than "end
result mode".

The next step will be to tinker with the chip as I would like to play with
the timing. Plans are to use a "romulator" that will allow me to test
different .bin chip configurations without the effort (or gear) to burn a
chip itself.

BTW, do you have a suggested reading reference on the relationship between
cam profile modications and ignition timing? I ordered up a book from
Amazon called "How to choose camshafts and time them for maximum power" -
Speedpro series by Dess Hammill. Also ordered up Chris Jacobs book on
ignition theory...

Thanks again...

Jeff

Ignition timing is not affected greatly by cam timing, except at lower rpm
where the loss of cylinder compression from a long duration cam requires
lots more ignition advance. I don't have a good reference for you.

Turner Motorsport can make a custom chip, as can Mark D'Sylva. I don't know
if Mark does M30 chips but you can ask: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: Wheel refinishing
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Does anyone here have experience with DIY wheel refinishing? My car has wheels
similar in appearance to Borbet's Type E, which can be seen here:
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/DisplayWheel.jsp?wheelMake=Borbet&wheelModel=Type+E&wheelFinish=Silver+w%2FMachined+Lip

They are silver painted 5-spoke with a polished rim. The silver parts look fine, but
the polished rims have lost some luster and it appears as if clearcoat is coming off
in some places. I remember Griot's advertising a wheel refinishing kit, but I
couldn't find it on their website.

Any advice on products and technique is appreciated.

TIA,

Mike Kozitka

Re: [UUC] SI Reset Instructions: No but....

Jay,
I have same year and model as you and have tried the reset button trick.
It won't reset the SI on our models, but I discovered that it will offer
you a bunch of intersting numbers if you release the SI button while the
needles are moving, not sure if its up or down to wait before release in
the button.
Then you get to cycle through what may be computer register contents.
The item number is on the trip odo and values on total odo readout.
they go from zero to 15 which is why I think they may be register
numbers. Most values are dashes or 0 or something like that. The
meaningful ones that I managed to figure out tell days in service since
the original in services date, kilometers since last SI reset (maybe
inspection, not oil service) and some others.
Its been a while since I played with it, and I'm going to revisit these
numbers soon since one of them may be the fuel economy scale's
correction factor mentioned in a posting earlier today.
Anyone know what those other numbers mean? Or if there is a way to
input info in through them or if its output only?

Barry

I have used McNutt Auto Transport 3 times with good results. In my
case they were open transports. From WI to TN and TN to MO was around
$425 each, CT to TN was around $600. They charge by the mile, but once loaded
up a longer trip does not cost that much more. I would guess coast to
coast would be over $1,000 though.

There are a ton of car movers - enclosed and open haulers, but McNutt is
the only one I have personal experience with.

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Group,
I'm looking to add a CD changer to my 2001 330i

A month or so before Christmas, there was a discussion about where to
get an MP3 capable CD changer for late model BMWs. I remember someone
pointing out an alternative to a crutchfield solution - The vendor was
located in Anderson Indiana, but I cannot find the referenced post nor
remember the name of the place. I even remember a pointer to a website
with pictures of the install.

Anybody remember? or have a better place to grab one?

Thanks

Selling off some of my reserves, E30 Euro lights (complete set), E12/E24
parts, etc. to finance my E30 touring A/C retrofit project (I've found the
donor car with good working parts I need).

Look for auction 2462345420 on ebay.com, other listed at present. I'll be
adding more shortly...

Why retrofit A/C in my E30 touring?

a) Because I am sick of sweating in my car in summer.
b) Because I've already retrofitted cruise, heated outside mirrors, leather
interior, heated front seats, E46 rear shock mounts with Bilsteins & Z3
mount plates. There is little else left.
c) Because I don't want to retrofit an airbag steering wheel (YET).
d) Because I really don't (ever) want to retrofit the "Star Wars" on-board
computer.
e) Because it simply CAN be done !!

I upped the FP on my e30 just a little, and my records show that my
OBC indicated MPG is now within a couple tenths of actual MPG, whereas
before it was always 1 MPG off.
 Double bonus!
