Lately my car has been shuddering when I take off or
change gears. The car is a 95 325i, 230K, manual
tranny. I replaced the clutch a couple of years ago
and when it was replaced I noticed there was a pulsing
on my clutch pedal when I would lightly press it down.
The pulsing hasn’t increased or decreased but could
this be the culprit? It never shuddered till now. Any
ideas anyone? TIA!

Hrm...

Along these same lines, when I first pull away from
the curb in the morning in my M3, as I let out the
clutch in first gear as I drive away, it chatters a
bit, a feeling more like an alternation between grip
and no grip on the clutch disc. I have the standard
flywheel and clutch installed. Once the car is warmed
up, this doesn't happen (or at least not to a
significant enough degree to be completely sure it is
actually happening). I assumed this was the throwout
bearing as well, even though I just had a full clutch
overhaul about 8 months ago, which included all the
hydraulics. Is my assumption correct?

Thanks,
Brian

If you didn’t replace the rear main bearing seal when the new clutch was
installed (have to pull flywheel to do it ) then oil getting onto the
friction plate is a good guess .Doesnt take a lot of it .

Hi Gang,

Where is a good place to buy some D2S HID Xenon bulbs?

I have a set of Phillips 4300K bulbs, but I want a more blue-ish light
instead of pure white I have now.

Thanks
David

Regardless of what BMW NA says or doesn't say about X3 and
X5 towing capacities, any of those models/engines is fine
for towing the empty trailer around town, or even moving the
trailer+car around the storage lot.

limits). With the euro OE hitch kit (which I've helped install),
even a E46 is rated for 3000lb.

That said, I believe X5s are around 5000lb+ with either engine, which
I would think is sufficient for an open trailer and racer on the
road, not to mention as a yard slug.

As for flat-towing, don't these sophisticated torque-distributing,
clutchpacked center diffs preclude safe flat-towing (or 1-end-up
towing) without disconnecting the driveshaft(s)?

I believe its mostly a cooling issue. Full power at low speed up a grade is
a major limiting factor.

I took a slightly different approach since the 235-40s are fitments on
both the 7 1/2 and 8 1/2 inch wheels.

I have had either Yoko AS 100s or not Goodyear KWD2s in the 235-40 size
on since the first set of staggered tires wore out.

Works fine on both track and street with less understeer than the
staggered arrangement but (and I'm guessing here) probably a little more
understeer than with a same sized wheels.

Much cheaper though, just can't rotate them.

A friend of mine is working on an intake element in his car that has a carbon
fiber cover. He needs to cut and drill the CF to get it to fit properly.

What techniques/tools should he use?

Taping over the material before cutting into it?
What kind of tools. Dremel with cutting wheel?

Things to watch out for (Cf splinters).

Thanks

BTDT on a CF tube. Tape it. I used racers tape aka duct tape. I used a
hand held hack saw with a metal blade. And I held my breath cuz imho CF
fibers are going to be our generations asbestos. What ever he uses I'd
recommend a "steel" blade since the teeth are closer together and he should
get a cleaner cut.
