Hi Peeps! Why not test anyway? Well, there's lazy and there's lazy... If it works why fix it? And if it works how can I debug? So I finally have an update.
Machine worked fine for the past week, then today it wouldn't go above 194. So my threshold for inconvenience has been met, grumpy without my 'spresso and I can repro, I have a new element in hand, etc, etc. Started in to testing: Both elements read 13.4 ohms. When steam boiler heats it gets 115volts. When brew boiler heats it gets 112.5 volts. Steam and brew boilers both heat right up quickly, just as always. I checked/wiggled the spade connectors and all were tight. The issue is this: once displayed temp gets to 194 the brew boiler stops receiving current. When it drops below 191 or so the brew element gets voltage again. The measured voltage doesn't match the little dot on the display. So: this doesn't seem to be an electrical problem with the element. Seems that my pid is slowly losing its piddedness. My pid is the Gicar with the BLUE LIGHTs. I went through the menu and all the values are correct defaults. I was about to do a "reset" (hold ^, power on, prs, release button and power off) but figured I should try machine first. Machine happily heated to 199, then got stuck there. It looks like as soon as pid goes from constant on to pulsing that the pulsing doesn't actually provide any voltage. When temp dips below a certain point then pid leaves pulse mode and machine heats again. Did the reset and machine now heats to 202. Any ideas show of getting yet another pid thingy? Thanks!
