What I'd like to learn more about is the power consumed by/heat produced
by the brain.

A friend of mine, an avid chess player, told me that during a long chess
tournament, if the players eat normally then they will lose a lot of
weight due to their brains processing so furiously and using up a lot of
power. I was somewhat skeptical. Can concentration really make such a
difference in the amount of power the brain uses? Does anyone have some
numbers on this?
