I'm not sure what the story is, or where the time in the archives comes
from.  But having dealt with these issues many times while building mail
archivers (I actually may have created the first web-based archiver, come to
think of it), I know that timestamps are a pain to try to rationalize in
software.

Upon closer inspection... Sometimes the archiver is using the date and time
from the Date: header, sometimes from one of the routers along the way.  I
used to do that in my archivers if the Date: field didn't make sense (in the
future, more than x days old, etc.).

Pipermail, the archiver that comes with Mailman, is generally acknowledged
to be fairly suboptimal.  There's been some talk of creating a new one, but
not much momentum.  It's a more complex problem than one might imagine at
first glance.
