>Also, it avoids us holding money and owing them a free, repeat breeding. I know of people who have gotten into some problems over free repeat breedings when the first one didn't work out.<
Myra & List - I think the post dated check is a good deal, actually... As someone who signed a stud contract (different breed) that guaranteed a repeat breeding at no additional fee if my bitch did not take - when no puppies were produced I contacted the stud owners. They told me to call them next season & theyd breed her again. Next time I called, they informed me they (unexpectedly) had to neuter him - but offered me a different stud dog - who was unacceptable to me (not the pedigree I wanted). I kept asking for a refund to no avail. I finally confronted them at a dog show & asked for my money (were talking $1,000). The husband took the wife aside & convinced her to refund most of it (they kept some for boarding & a service fee), but it was not a pretty picture. Needless to say I was at the bank bright & early the next morning to cash the check. With the one litter of Cavaliers I have produced, the stud dog owners were wonderful to deal with. We exchanged pedigrees, photos, heart, hip, eye, & patella certificates & I did a brucellosis test on my bitch. A very reasonable fee was exchanged, puppies arrived, & all went smooth. I hope next time is as amicable! But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." Alfred D.
