400 years of toy spaniels is a tiny drop in the bucket as compared to 1 1/2 million years for dinosaurs. I am talking much bigger than the next hundred years or thousand years. I think a breed should be bred with an eye to *forever* not for just a hundred or a thousand years. Because if we breed with an eye to *forever* every Cavalier will benefit NOW! If we are capable of doing it, we SHOULD do it. With today's knowledge and testing and the start of genetic testing, we are somewhat capable. The breeds that continue to exist far into the future will be the ones that were bred with this knowledge, testing and foresight. They will also be the ones who will benefit first by experiencing better health and less pain.
