blood panels before surgery is always a good idea. if there are any
underlying kidney or liver problems that will be compromised by anesthesia,
the blood work can pick up on it, especially in an older dog. in this
country, it is mandatory for humans to have pre operative blood work, so why
not for the dogs, but i agree with jeanie. to routinely do bloods on an
otherwise healthy animal is ridiculous i worked in the veterinary field for
many years and one of the doctors i worked with always used to say that if
you do enough bloods on a particular dog, eventually you are going to find
something. lets just stick to trying to breed typey, healthy dogs without
looking for some obscure new disease to add to the list.
