Hi List,
I've been following the thread on Thrombocytopenia with interest. However,
I am confused. Is a Cavalier that has large platelets that have to be hand
counted considered affected with Thrombocytopenia? Or only a Cavalier that
has a low platelet count, including both large and small platelets. Should
breeders be testing for the presence of large platelets and breeding away
from this condition? Or is it just a idiosyncrasy of Cavaliers. I know
that many Boxers tend towards low-normal Thyroid, but this doesn't
necessarily lead to Thyroid deficiency nor should one not breed an otherwise
excellent dog just because he/she tests low-normal.
