You have to "instinctively know" the signs of normal whelping and those of distress, i.e you "know" your bitch. While I would be very concerned about a puppy every hour and a half, the bottom line would be that there were live puppies...not flaccid puppies that have to be revived, but live wiggly vogorous puppies that survived, and mom had had regular contractions and no extraordinary ,methods of assistance (pit shots) to help her along.
