thanks for your help, Jim. I've actually glanced at the technical/repair manuals for both the Plus and the Classic II. While both have good and detailed information on CRT safety and discharging, neither has accurate descriptions of the specific problems I've been having. There are similarities to several documented issues, but no dead-ringers. I was reading back in this mailing list's archive, and noticed that folks have had a lot of success actually DISHWASHING the motherboard. Think this might help my situation? Is dishwashing the power board an option, or just the motherboard? What's a good method of drying the board after washing it to prevent any further potential damage?
This is not the first forum I have inquired about this issue. So far, there has been no one who has ever experienced the symptoms my Classic II exhibits. :( ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Norman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Compact Macs" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, February 21, 2004 10:31 PM Subject: Re: Mac Classic II booting trouble > The flyback transformer should discharge the voltage quite quickly, but > even so you really should follow Apple instructions and discharge the > CRT to earth (and do not wear a wrist-strap until after you discharge > the tube). > > Use something insulated such as an electrician's screwdriver with a > wire connecting it to a good earth, something such as a known good > power socket, turned off of course.
