Indeed. I've been searching (maybe not enough / the good way) and must admit 
you may be
right : I couldn't find where Bibble/AfterShot and Rapid Photo Dowloader do 
retrieve split seconds
from. I could find nothing about this using exiftools.
But the fact is, both the software previously mentioned do allow to display 
this information.
Could they happen to create this on their own, assuming that if they find more 
than one file within
the same second, then they split that second into as many as files ?
That is the only explanation that comes to my mind after reading your reply, 
and I must admit
that I never had thought about this before, I thought it was normal with new 
cameras to be able
to provide such information.
