we have held from the beginning of the Foundation, and which is stated in pretty much
ever Apache Way talk I've ever attended, because it is, as you say, an axiom of the
foundation.
Let's *please* not make this about Jim. Let's discuss principles, not
personalities.
I find the idea of any axioms other than producing open source software
for the public good very troubling, and scary for the long term survival
of the ASF. The more axioms an organization has, in addition to its
primary purpose, the greater the risk of the organization dying because
it cannot make a change that would have let it continue to achieve its
purpose.
Of course, an organization can have ways of doing things that have
worked well in the past, and should not be changed without very good
reasons, but those are tools, not axioms.
