Hi Daniel,

On the other hand, there are A LOT of name changes, and new entries, and icons being moved all over the place. Do you think that each one should go through a community vote? If we did that, we wouldn't get anywhere. Hence... at most only a small minority of changes should go through community vote. So we need a criteria for choosing which changes the community should vote for amongst the sea of changes we are not voting for.

You are right, and the critery, that Sophie raises for the stylist is, tha many the new french OOo users didn't like it .. and that the Stylist is one of the selling points of OOo (I don't know, how to translate the German term "Alleinstellunsmerkmal" - somethign, waht only *we* have).

Why is *this* change so different that it should have gone through a community vote? To me it looks no greater than many others that are happening. Several things (e.g. toolbars, Impress, Draw, Base) are changing much much more than the name of the "Stylist". And at least "Stylist" and "Styles and Formatting" sound similar. What about "Autopilot" being changed to "Wizard" ?

Funny, we had a short vote about the german translation for the Autopilot (stay with "Autopilot", call it "Wizard" or take "Assistent" as in "MS Office"). Im really thankfull to Elizabeth for asking similar things at the germanophone list.
So .. maybe a note for Sophie / Charles: the community is not completely ignored ;-)

I don't mean to be a pest. If this change is important, I'll vote for the issue. But I want to know why, since right now I think the change is good.

OOo 2.0 will have a "smasher" for former MSO users, when looking at stlyles. This is the format paintbrush. Although this is one of the most painfull things to me (as it stops the user to think about structured styles and makes stylechanges in larger documents a nightmare), this is one of my highlights when doing a OOo 2.0 demo. Because at least 80% of MSO-Users ask for such a format paintbrush.
And they name it exactly that way "format paintbrush" and not "something to copy a format to another text range". The paintrush in Word is such a key feature, as it is easy to identify by it's name.
But whe advertizing "our" new format painter, I always talk about the "Stylist", as this is much more powerfull and no MSO user can imagine, what you can do with it. It is just about identity for a powerfull tool.

Andre
