This has been really an excellent discussion.

Dave, I agree that surely GD is doing something the marketplace approves of.
Heck I went to them because I'd heard/read of their cheap rates and good
customer service. But eventually I went away because maybe I evolved into a
different kind of customer. My need for a usable admin app for daily use
overtook my concern for rates (annual pain).

Clearly there's space for as many types of business models as there are types
of customers. In my case perhaps it became a poor fit, but having read Robert's
(erstwhile) insider perspective, it still seems such a shame that they should
lose hard-earned customers due to fixable issues. And this is where I disagree
with Dave - I believe GD IS terrible to use - so terrible in fact, that I'm
happy paying $20/month to mediaTemple for essentially a better web admin app
(since either vendors have enough space for my needs).

I suppose GD has no reason to change if it's achieving its financial and
business goals. (and I think if anything, the site is getting crazier. What's
with GoDaddy Girls?!!) But like Andrei says situations like this resolve
themselves when the right competition arrives. Example - Altavista vs. Google,
any/all mp3 players vs. Ipod etc.
