By contrast, as someone constantly busy with work, getting dragged into
help with just one more thing, I found that joining a gym and paying a
trainer has been very worthwhile.

Once I have an appointment I work hard to keep it; when people try to
drag me in, I give warning of when I have to leave.  It's worked.

Trainers aren't cheap, but I looked at how much money I spent on tech,
reasoned that I only have one body and should consider spending even a
fraction of that much money on body maintenance instead of geekery.

Different people, different things work.  Just offering a contrasting
point of view.  (I tend to not actively enjoy the gym, especially not
the next day).
