It sounds like your client doesn't like the idea that there's actually a process by which she can
take action to (1) get her domain back, and (2) notify Tucows that something inappropriate took place. Instead, your expectation is that Tucows should simply give her the domain name and slap down the reseller based on one side of the story. Based on your description, it certainly sounds like the reseller is acting in bad faith. But isn't it reasonable that Tucows would have some sort of mechanism by which to report this activity so that they can research it and take action to resolve it? The obvious fix is to get this woman's domain back into her hands. But it would be irresponsible of Tucows to simply do so without researching further. Protection should run both ways, and I expect Tucows to also ask me (as a reseller) about a given situation before meddling in my relationships with my customers. In my experience, you won't find a company that does a better job of protecting its resellers AND domain registrants than Tucows. Nor will you find one that operates with the same level of ethics that they do. I don't see it as unreasonable to say "Here's our process to allow your client to regain control of her domain name" or to require that she submit her complaint and allegations in writing so that they can be researched. A client has had her domain name hijacked by her OpenSRS reseller. She registered her name with a reseller who has no online interface. The reseller then registered her domain name with their own information as admin contact. Now the client has signed up with us to host said domain name, but because the other resller "owns" the domain, they are not allowing her to move it. I contacted compliance about this, and was told that the client can fill out the form and fax it to Tucows. Well, that would be all well and good if the client had lost her login info, or if the client had changed her email address without changing it in the domain record. But neither of these scenarios happened. The reseller stole the domain plain and simple. Now, if I were one who liked to take advantage of this situation, I could stay with Tucows knowing that any domain I stole from my customer would be safe with me, due to complete inaction by Tucows. I could really make a killing. But seeing as I am an ethical businessman, I have no intention to take advantage of this situation, and will immediately start to look for a domain wholesaler who will protect the end user from this abuse.
