I have to differ with you on this. I love Tabbed windows. I use them for
quick access stuff that I want to lump together (like one marked
"Internet" that contains buttons to about a dozen network apps and tools
I use daily).

I haven't found a good alternative to this in OS X yet. I think the dock
will let me drop a folder into it, and then upon click and hold will list
the contents of the folder... but then I loose the icon view that I use
with the button layout in OS 9. I just like that look for some stuff.
(for other things, like my "In Progress" projects documents folder, then
dock's popup list will do fine).

But I do use and miss tabs on my OS X machine at home.

I don't get why more people don't think like this. A computer is a tool,
just like anything else. You set it to your needs, and use it the way YOU
need it. If OS X helps your needs, great... if System 6 running on an SE
does the job... stick with it. No one is forcing people to buy anything
new (ok, well, MS is trying with their new license schemes... but MS
lives in its own reality).

I've never understood why people get angry about new versions of software
just because they don't need them. You don't buy a new car because the
latest model came out, you buy a new one when your current one can no
longer suit your needs.

I have a PowerMac 6500 here at work that I use... chances are it is going
to be YEARS before I upgrade it. I have been considering getting a G3
card for it, but currently, I don't NEED the extra speed, so the money
isn't worth it. The 6500 fits the needs I have at work, and is a great
tool for my job.

At home, I have an iMac DV SE, 400Mhz, 1g of RAM, 60g HDD, and a 4x USB
CD burner. I am pissed that I am trying to buy a house, because it is
keeping me from getting a new dual processor G4 and a new Yamaha 42x
firewire cd burner. Why... because at home I edit and produce movies, and
the iMac isn't really up to the task. It is NOT a good tool for my needs,
so I want to upgrade it.

That's what it is all about folks... a computer is a tool... use it in
the manner that best suits your needs.
