That said, I just fired it up to take a look around. It’s been the first time I’ve really looked through the settings since before the 11.2 update, I believe. They’ve changed some language and the automatic Exchange and LDAP server detection was new. I could swear I remember seeing before that you were supposed to use the front-end server whenever possible, but I’m not finding anything to that effect now. So either I’m hallucinating or it’s been changed. However, I still think it’s a good idea, and here’s why.
Entourage is communicating with Exchange using WebDAV, a set of extensions for HTTP. The front-end server is in place to handle all HTTP (ie, OWA), POP3, and IMAP requests, among others. So it seems to follow that Entourage should use this as well. Also, if you use a front-end server, you have to turn off SSL on your back-end servers. This means that you cannot encrypt your traffic if you connect Entourage to a back-end server. You can if you point it to the front-end server, however. Especially if any Entourage users are external, it is a TERRIBLE idea from a security standpoint to send all traffic to the back-end server unencrypted. I can’t even believe that port 80 to your Exchange servers would be open to external users.
We don’t use ISA here, but my personal opinion is that one of the ISA changes should be made, rather than turning on forms-based authentication in Exchange.

It’s interesting that you say that, because the users workaround right now is to look at this mailbox in OWA, claiming that’s more accurate.
I wanted to point our mobile users to the front-end, but it would not work. I found that we are probably suffering from a known problem with ISA servers ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909268/EN-US/ ) And, our Exchange admin claims we can’t make the authentication changes noted due to , and I’ll quote: “certain security and user-friendly
requirements that have dictated the OWA design”
What rationale can you site for pointing Entourage to the font-end as standard procedure?

I haven't heard of that problem before, although we're only using Entourage on a fairly limited basis. The first thing that jumped out at me in your email though is that you are pointing Entourage at your back-end servers. You should ALWAYS point Entourage at your front-end server. Maybe try that and see if it helps things at all.

I guess I have to assume that no responses equates to no one ever hearing this before??
This is killing us, HUGE step backwards in productivity from Outlook 2001.
As an update, if a message is moved by a PC user from the inbox to a users inbox subfolder, the Entourage user will see the message moved almost right away, at next sync for sure.
If an Entourage user moves a message, another Entourage user or PC will not see that move reflect for anywhere from 2-5 minutes.
There is DEFINITELY a back-end synchronization problem. This should warrant a Hotfix!!!
