It's nice to see there are other people who don't like the white color
of the 70-200 f/2.8. I like to shoot on the streets, and that big white
lens draws a lot of attention -- especially not a good idea in some of
the sketchier neighborhoods. In fact, awhile back I bought a Sigma
70-200 f/2.8 mainly because it was black, but the HSM was just no match
for USM, and I ended up returning it.
Anyway, I went to Canon's Web site and filled out the feedback form,
asking them to please make a black version available when they add IS to
the lens (I'm assuming they will). They wrote back and said that they
had no plans to make a black version of a 70-200 f/2.8 lens, but that
they'd pass my suggestion along to the design team like they do with all
feedback from their users. I'd recommend that the rest of you who feel
this way do the same and let Canon know that there's demand for a black
version. Nikon is making certain lenses in both white and black finishes
-- I don't see why Canon can't.
