-Hi Collyer,

-I have a 28-135 IS, the 500D and extension tubes. And I could
-not finde enough information in your question to write an answer.

-What format of EOS camerae are you using?
I will be using an EOS 1v camera body.

-How close do you want/need to get?
-How much magnification do you want/need?
I confess I haven't done my homework in this area. However a few minutes
ago I put my Canon FD 80-200mm f/4 zoom on a New F-1 body set at the 135mm
focal length and the focus set to 3.5 feet.

Judging from that experience (magnification uncalculated at this time!) I
would like to use the 28-135mm IS at the 135mm setting and focus closer...
say between 2-3 meters.

I don't plan on taking a lot of close-ups just when something looks
interesting like an unusual flower, door knob, fish or fruit at the market.

-Will you use a tripode?
I will not be using a tripod.

-Are you going to use flashe as the main light?
I will not be using flash as a main light.

-Howe about a dedicated macro lense? Bellowes? Reversing ringse?
I do not plan to use any of the above because I will be doing
travel/vacation photography and my preferences are to: 1) lighten the load,
therefore an extra macro lense or bellows is too much weight
2) simplify the operation, therefore no bellows. I have not considered
reversing rings.

-How much are you willinge to spend?
The cost not the main concern but the weight and size of the tool(close-up
filter or extension tube) and ease of use are more important. I realize a
500D close-up filter 72mm is in the $200.00 (US dollar) range.

Julian thanks for your help.

TIA,

Take Care,

Collyer
