Because Canon only recently "lost" its copyright on the USM and IS technologies. Nikon
has to develop, test and debug its Silent Wave and Vibration Reduction technology
before it's put into all sorts of lenses. And maybe Nikon think for the customers and
say that the basic user won't need SW and VR, so they won't bother installing it. If
that's the case, then Nikon would be stupid... Just look at the first two IS lenses
Canon presented: the 28-135 and the 75-300... Both consumer lenses...
