The EOS5/A2 is an old camera. I think if you compared it side by side
with recent models from Minolta, like the 7, you'd be disappointed.
However...
In the last year or so, I switched from Minolta AF (Dynax 9) to Canon
EOS (1nHS) because I wasn't happy with their autofocus for my ice
hockey work. I also wanted a 300/2.8 and I much preferred the build
quality and internal focus motor of the Canon lens to the Minolta one.
Switching brands was an expensive move but since I was shooting
professionally, I simply couldn't keep plodding away with equipment
that wasn't up to the task. Minolta make superb lenses, optically,
but they are not interested in the professional market place. They
have also committed themselves to a mount that will not easily allow
an in-lens focus motor and are not likely to change. My recent move
to digital has also reinforced the move to Canon since it looks
increasingly unlikely that Minolta will ever launch a 'proper' (ie:
interchangeable lens) digital SLR.
