I purchased a 300mm f/2.8 L IS a couple of months ago and I seriously
thought about ordering one at B&H and have them ship it to Europe. Even with
the import taxes and VAT that lens would still be around $1600 USD cheaper.
I was offered a good deal in Holland so I didn't import the lens, but this
to me proves that taxes alone are not to blame for the price difference.

I don't blame Canon, the same thing happens with Nikon, Minolta etc. I'd
like to understand why these price differences are so huge though.
