Why? You believe (although I do not) that physical calculation
is not necessary to implement something, and your Gödel
number exists regardless of whether anybody knows what it is or
if anybody makes use of it.
Indeed, with respect to immortality, an artificial brain is vain, but
if you want elongated your "normal" physical (arising from the sigma_1
probability calculus), then you need to make your actual brain to
continue, but then you can expect to pay the price in the normal
worlds, and knowing the humans, and the concrete doctors, that might
be risky.
Your remark reminds me the critics against the MWers: why don't you
jump out of the window instead of using the lift, given that you will
survive in some worlds. Answers the probability is hig that you
survive with your quality life deteriorated.
So if you're right I don't see what good keeping it secret
would do.
To avoid becoming a victim by a hunters of those poor humans non-
encrypted code. That sell at very high price, underground, in the sado-
maso galactical circles, which might develop in the normal worlds.
And besides, my Gödel number won't be in the public
domain, it will be in Alcol's domaine. Could Alcor be corrupted and
betray me? Yes it's possible, but if you what a chance at
immortality, any chance at all, then you're going to have to trust
somebody. So other than perhaps wasting enough money to buy a
nice car I don't see any downside to at least trying.
I am annoyed to say that I find this a bit dangerous, and that there
are much simplest and safe ways to be "immortal", in my *opinion*
(like perhaps smoking salvia divinorum, which is about the same as
dying, at least in some theory/interpretation of the experience).
I will not attempt to explain why Alcor is dangerous, and vain, on the
fundamental matter.
"we are immortal" is part of the X* minus X logics, and so is a
"secret" somehow. And "we" is not what actually most people want to
identify with when thinking about "continuation".
Some intuition is given by the thought experiments, and the math
requires understanding enough mathematical logic to understand that G*
prove the equivalence of []p with []p & p, with []p & <>t, etc *and*
that G proves none of those equivalence, making the universal person
corresponding to the universal machine hallucinating a lot, even up to
get collective stable normal hallucinations, which is nice to say
hello to oneself infinitely many times.
What would you choose, John, if I give you the choice between a yellow
pill and a green pill?:
- the yellow pill makes you immortal,
- the green pill eliminates completely the fear of death.
