I doubt this actually. I don’t think the universe ever split. Only consciousness differentiates. Even if the cat in the sate a + d is isolated on the moon, I am “split” by it on earth, in the universal wave, but my consciousness will differentiate only if I look at the cat, or at anything having interacted with it. That is just quantum tensor linearity: O(a + d) = O a + O d, even if O does not look at the cat.
