Jay, you can update a roll bar pretty cheap, but the issue is "competitive". A 1988 whatever will not keep up with the latest hardware. Generally there's a reason for not having a piston bigger what's offered for a particular engine, it's called cylinder wall thickness. 4mm is pretty big jump, that's almost .080 off the cylinder wall. The other issue is how reliable will it be once you get the juice out of it. Remember the AMW saga.... CR

A bigger part of the problem is that many of the Kawi powered cars have the older 1 1/4" roll bars & thus can never road race. I think there is plenty that could be done to get another 10 hp for the Kawi engine as it used to be a popular engine. I say let them overbore the cylinders & re-chrome the barrels & see what happens. It would only be about 50cc & should not present any problems. I just looked on the Wiseco catalog & they make a 2mm overbore piston for the Kawi engine. This only get to 462cc & it not enough in my opinion. Still it would help. What is really needed is a 72 mm piston & there are a ton of them in the catalog. The problem is the wrist pin size. Still it could be done if someone would try to make it happen. I suggest that someone with a real interest research this. It should not be hard to figure out what combination would work. Getting the rules changed would be the hardest. Stan, is there any chance this could happen? Thanks ... Install Crankshaft in Kawi. If I had a Kawi on a Road Race set-up and I could make such adjustments to keep-up with the Rotax and add to the F500 numbers, I WOULD MAKE THEM AND GO ROAD RACING! . . . thus immediately challenging the SCCA rules that restrict it ON THE KAWI. . . . if it allows the Kawi's to be competitive and have fun, but not beat the Rotax's, then where's the harm and why would the SCCA or F500 competitors have reason to take any action other than rewriting the GCR to allow it? Furthermore, being a Rotax Road Racer, if a fellow competitor showed up with a tweaked Kawi and gave a good run/race, I'd be the first to support this driver and his right to race with the local and national SCCA. I know down here in TX, if the fellow competitors spoke to the steward and said we support our Kawi driver and his set-up, then that would be that. . . . I know the argument against such an action would be the "possibility" of the "super-Kawi". But I think that's a different thing than being suggested here. So, the question is . . .would this REALLY get many Kawi RR cars onto the tracks?
