Winding quills for linen is better than plastic or wood bobbins. The
cardboard or paper quills will exert enough drag on the unwinding yarn that
this springing off tendency is greatly lessened. Also, with lots of practice
and use of tension, it is possible to have only 1 in 20-30 quills behave
this way. When it does,it is time to wind more carefully. Dampening enough
quills for long yardage is impractical.
