I don't use temples, I find them unnecessary for anything I weave,
especially linen (in which my experience goes as far as 20/1 warp/weft
for reproduction Shaker towels--not very fine, but more than most of
what I weave), since there's so little takeup.
My problem wasn't with the selvages, but with the linen wrapping around
the spindle in the shuttle as it unwound from the bobbin, stopping the
yarn from coming off the bobbin entirely. Once I dampened the linen, it
was no longer an issue.
