First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Joe said it VERY well!
Take a look at your chassis first *Brakes *Are they in safe working order? *Disc Brake Upgrade? *Good Fluid? *Steering *good ball joints *all links in good shape? *How is the steering box? *Front and rear Suspension *Springs and bushings in good shape You should work from the rear of the car forward *Rear Axle *Posi *Gear Ratio *Drive Shaft *Are the U Joints new and up to the task? *Transmission *Does it have a shift kit to firm up shifts? *Converter, is it stock or does it have some increased stall to it. Bigger cams like more stall *Exhaust *A 2.5" MANDREL BENT Exhaust *Headers preferably 4 tube headers instead of the cheaper 3 tube design THEN look at the engine Everything up to this point will make a huge improvement that you cannot actually make with a new High Performance engine. The car will be a pleasure to drive and be much more fun. This is how I have approached my build, it has enabled me to enjoy the car all along the way.
