Last night, it did get VERY hot.
Did I fry the Belkin card due to heat?
It is in the same area as the CPU.
Heat is bad for any electronic component.
Sporadic, intermittent function is very hard to troubleshoot. If you
have another computer to test the card in, that would help. Reseating
the card or changing slots if possible might help. If the card is
shown properly in System Profiler and the Network Preferences Pane
it's likely the software is working. You might remove the Airport
"port" in the Network Preferences by using the "-" button and then
reboot and go to Network Preferences and see if the "new port" auto-
detects or not, I believe it normally should auto-detect. If it
doesn't, you should be able to add it back using the "+" button and
selecting Airport.
I suspect this issue will be hard to resolve if you don't have access
to additional hardware to assist in troubleshooting. The overheating
issue can be very difficult because it will work fine when cool and
stop when hot. If it stops, pull the card and feel how hot it is, if
it's really hot, it's probably a heat issue. The card itself might
have the heat issue, or as you pointed out, the CPU proximity could be
the problem. Is the fan working properly? If not, STOP using this
PISMO, you'll eventually kill the HD, and perhaps the whole thing.
