Thank you, Bruce. All very good info. So that's the fan. Hmm. I'm planning to take the Pismo apart and re-install the processor --- this time adding the arctic silver paste. While I'm in there - is there anything I can do for the fan to check it, or fix it? Should I try to buy a replacement for the fan?
About the PATA SSD - could you tell me the size I need for the Pismo? I'll see if I can get one. If you have a recommended place to buy affordably, please let me know. That cooling pad might be another thing to try. Although the one I made doesn't have a fan, I built a small "table" of sorts to allow air to flow under the Pismo. Using a dollar store 8x10 wooden frame, I removed the glass and installed a flat sheet of cork. At that point, it could be used as a bulletin board - but that's not what I was going for. The cork just made it look nicer. On top of the cork, I glued a used Altoids tin in each corner. The tops of each box was covered with a thin sheet of cotton fabric to make it look a little less junky. These tin boxes act as small stilts holding up the Pismo - but allowing air to get underneath it all quite well. When blowing a fan at this, the air easily gets underneath. I think if I could find a cheap and tiny USB fan that I could aim underneath this, I'd be better off than with my larger fan. Or - barring that - invest in the cooling pad, if need be. Last night, even my flash drive felt hot when I pulled it out. Only used the pismo for 30 minutes and it was terribly hot. Surgery coming today or tomorrow if I can work it in to the holiday schedule. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
