I would also agree with this.  If you surf around on Craigslist
or EBay or whatever local classifieds exist in your area
(and are not in a major hurry to buy one tomorrow), patience can
often yield a good deal. I spent several months searching and
waiting, but eventually got a Macbook Pro 15 for under $400 (and
nothing on it is broken, works flawlessly).

With the holiday season here, waiting a few weeks or even a month
for everyone who got a NEW computer to put their old one up for
sale may produce results. Even at $200 a G4 based laptop is not 
a great deal anymore...if you find one for $100 or less it might
be a good hold-over if you need something right away, but older
Macbooks or even Macbook Pros are starting to get reasonable in
pricing.
