There is a fan in the Pismo but it's tiny! See the photo in the top right of
this page:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-PowerBook-G3-Pismo-Framework/34/1.

Clicking on the photo in the top right brings up an enlarged view - you can see
the fan (black component) about halfway along the left side.

I never hear my fan but that's probably because
- there are other devices with fans around my desk
- I almost always have music on
- I've replaced the HD with an SSD
- my Pismo is a webserver so doesn't take much strain.
I used to hear the fan occasionally when it was my production mac.

Once you've sorted the immediate problems, I'd strongly recommend replacing the
HD with a PATA SSD - this reduces the boot time and makes the Pismo overall
more responsive. Also it drastically reduces the power drain. I had my Pismo
unplugged for about 3 hours yesterday and it was fine. Previously, battery life
was about an hour.

Good luck with fixing the heat/wireless situation. BTW, have you considered a
coolpad (http://roadtools.com/podium.html) or similar laptop cooling device.
(Some makes have USB-powered fans.) Cool your laptop without freezing yourself.

cheers

Bruce
