Thanks for helping.

Until a few minutes ago, I thought the intermittent part of the
problem had turned to fatal. Strangely, just now when I booted up to
check the profiler the card began to work again!

Now, bear in mind - this can't be attributed to just cooling off
enough to work. Yesterday I tried like a mad woman to get the thing
working. The Pismo was completely cool. Not once could I get that card
working.

Tonight? It works again.

To touch on the point about heat again - I notice you mentioned a fan
in the Pismo. In all seriousness, I'm asking: Is there a fan that is
supposed to run in the Pismo? I've owned it for just two years now,
and never in all this time have I EVER heard a fan run. I try very
hard to keep it cool but turning it off when it gets warm, or running
a personal fan at it while using it. (The personal fan gets chilly for
me in the winter here - but what else is there to do?)

Would it help if I took it apart again - like I did when I replaced
the whole upper case with screen - and put some of that gel/paste/
silverstuff on the processor this time? When I did the surgery last
time, I was told it wasn't required for my model. I could buy some
though and do it over if you feel that might be part of the heat
issue.

I really have to use the Pismo. My only other model is a moose of an
eMac. Healthwise, I can't sit up at my desk at times - and the Pismo
is my only chance to get anything done on the computer at those
times.

Any thoughts on cheaply rectifying this would be appreciated.

PS: As for testing, unless the eMac has a slot for that card (don't
think so) then I have no other machine to test it on. Maybe the heat
has damaged it enough to make it "wonky" but it isn't quite totally
dead yet. If anyone has a cheap replacement for the card, please let
me know. It only has to function about 30 feet from the wireless
router - and the speed isn't as important as getting on line, period.
