And if you use any Classic/pre-OSX mac software, SheepShaver is your friend. LEMswap might be a good place to start - figure out a budget, then go for the newest/fastest mac you can get for that money. Add RAM (so long as you initially get enough to comfortably run the OS and your major apps) and maybe a bigger HD later as you can afford it. You may make some money back by selling Pismo on LEMswap, either as-is or bit by bit. If you can't afford Intel, go for something that's at least 867MHz so you can run 10ยท5 (Leopard) with the ever-wonderful TimeMachine hourly backup. You can gut the HD out of Pismo, stick it in a USB case and you have a back-up drive straight away. (Of course you'd need a backup drive that's at least as large as the data you back up - probably at least twice as large to get a number of backups before the drive becomes full. At that point TimeMachine starts erasing old backups to get space for new ones.)
