The problem with ebay from both ends is there is no way of figuring out who
is telling the truth in any transaction. The seller can claim the item was
in perfect shape when shipped to you and there is no way to tell if that is
true or not, unless there were detailed photos on the auction site.

You on the other hand have not way of proving what the item looked like when
you received it, since you could have scratched it after using it and now
want to return it. Most ebay sellers and buyers are very honest, but there
is always the chance you will connect with one that is not.

Check their feedback and hope for the best of don't bid at all!
