Hi Dark. Oh yes I absolutely agree with you in principal that technology could do a lot more for us in terms of navigation devices, I use a "bat" k sonar device on my cane myself and have found it to be very handy for determining things like the size and relative position of objects near me when I am walking around. I think more research and development needs to be done with these devices. Unfortunately I can tell you from direct experience that while some of us will undoubtedly benefit from these devices I have personally worked with many who "get lost in a closet." This is getting a bit off-topic for gaming, so to bring it back on-topic somewhat, I will say that indeed games like SOD are excellent tools for helping some people develop orientation skills.

Well I agree tom, but technology wise, i don't see navigation difficulties as an absolute fact of being visually impared, ----- not with things like the Ultra cane being developed, and all the possible applications of sat nav technology. In fact eventually, it wouldsn't surprise me if a combination of sat nav and echo or infra red location could be used to create something in real life which performed much the same functions as the navigater in shades as far as routes and obstacle information was concerned (though obviously it couldn't tell you about objects). In fact on this score, it wouldn't surprise me if playing shades etc was quite good practice for future tech developements, ---- ;D. Beware the Grue!
