Nancy -- just so you know, your data files are safe. They are in a different location that the program files (x86) folder. If you continue to have issues, my recommendation would be re-install version 5.13 and start from the beginning again. Obviously, version 5.13 was working - so logically, if you re-install the last working version (5.13) it should work again. Now, if you go to re-install it and you still have a problem, then you definitely have a mismatch of some kind with the underlying .dll files.

So do this -- try re-installing version 5.13 and get back to a working state. Make sure to remove the gnucash folder that is inside the program files (x86) folder. Make sure to either rename it or remove the folder completely.

If you get version 5.13 to work - you are back to where you started before you tried to upgrade. You can stay in this state for as long as you want - -you do not need to go to 5.14 and you will be fine. If you still want to go to 5.14 -- then I would de-install version 5.13, and then again go and make sure you remove that gnucash folder in the program files (x86) folder. This should work - but if it still does not work, you will always know that you can go back to the 5.13 version that was working for you.

Make sure to report this situation - whichever way you go -- to the users group so that other can chime in if they have had the same issue and now may have a workaround to get it to work.

Just so you know -- FYI -- this is something related to specific instances of Windows 11 - because I have the latest version of Window 11 and have never had this issue at all.

Several times since getting your reply I have tried deleting gnucash in Program Files (x86). When I install 5.14, it installs without any error messages but when I try to run it, I get the error message "The code execution cannot proceed because libicuin76.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this Problem". But when I reinstall it, I get the same error message.

How do I gain access to my data files??

Please help!!

>Nancy -- this has been a documented issue for some windows users. It has to do with the left over folder contained in the program files(x86) folder. After you uninstall GNUcash - I believe all you need to do it remove the Gnucash folder that is located in the program files(x86) folder. By removing the folder and then re-installing the program, it will work seamlessly.
