I have Malwarebytes and my GnuCash installed with no issues. Other
virus-protection software are being overly aggressive and flagging the
open sources programs as viruses. As long as you know that you are
downloading from a known sources (SourceForge) you should be OK to just
disable Avast Premium and turn it back on after you install.
Secondly, make sure to report the false positive to Avast.

You may not have any anti-virus installed, but what about Windows
Defender? Could that be interfering with the installation?

This is my personal desktop machine. No anti-virus product installed--I
used to have Avast (free version) but it's nowhere to be found now, so I'm
installing it now.
