There are a number of isues with these changes aside from the minor typo I
pointed out privately. :)

I have to agree with my compatriots here that there are significant
questions about the purpose and usefulness of these changes, with regards
to both effectiveness of email campaigns and their impact on user privacy
and choice.

I personally prefer text-only emails; I reluctantly enabled HTML email for
certain accounts because there were some things I was missing out on that I
really needed to have quick access to.

The main issue here, though, is that this is a community filled with people
with strong concerns and knowledge about privacy, security, and personal
choice, and a change like this is going to trigger warning bells in all of
those areas. I’m pleased that we are re-evaluating this change; however, I
do agree with those who say this discussion should be brought back into the
open rather than off-list as soon as possible (and ideally would be
entirely on-list).

Appreciate all the feedback and thank you for the questions.

I'm going to convene a group (heads up I'll be reaching out to a few of you
directly) to discuss the proposed changes in further detail - why it was
recommended, other solutions considered and available communication
options/channels.

We'll report back in within a week or so on it.

Best,
Michele
