It's not emulation. Do your research. And in documented cases FreeBSD has run some Linux apps faster than Linux could. Game servers even.
- Logs/MapChanges/etc: writing a ton of logs to the local drive is another slow point (goes back to number 1 about the speed and stability of your hdd). I currently write my logs to a SAN to take load off the local disk. Map changes will introduce lag unless you have a very fast drive.
This is crap. If you have 4 servers running w/ lots of slots open on one machine with log detail set to 3, you might get 4M of logs written total in about 1/2 hour? If your disk can't handle that then get something made in the last 10 years.
