Yes, I believe that they (the squares) are supposed to be solid, so it seems that more cleaning is a good idea. The heads may also need to be cleaned. I know someone who cleans the heads by taking a wetting a coffee filter in warm to hot water, and taking the head (removing it first), and dabbing it (not rubbing it) on the coffee filter a few times. This may unclog a few more nozzles. If you can find the CDs that came with the printer, the documentation CD will help you decipher the test results. You _may_ also be able to download this from HP. According to the documentation, running the troubleshooting portion of the maintenance utility requires an internet connection, so you may be able to upload the results to HP if you wanted to open an incident with them. If the heads are still under warranty, you may be able to get HP to send you replacements. That would depend on what the technical support people say.
