I bought it on my first iMac (a Rev B) at the end of the first year of warranty. Only two weeks later, my iMac went dead and it cost over $300.00 for them to fix it. So, that paid for the Applecare and saved me $150.00 on top of that.
Any other repairs on top of that would have been free and I got 2 years of phone support which came in handy more than once. Given that experience, I bought Applecare on this new iMac just after I had the kernel panic situation last week.
