It's the standard for the majority of all equipment purchases. I am involved with rough terrain, wheeled vehicle systems, used in mining, military, fire fighting applications etc.. The OEM's standard warranty is 20,000 km, 12 months or 2,000 engine hours, which ever occurs first. If a purchaser requires an extended warranty it costs more, depending on duration, and it's always based on the worst case scenario. We build the cost of that warranty into the purchase price. If they want a life cycle cost bid, with a guaranteed buy back? We'll be happy to do that, but I assure you the cost is built right in the selling price. It's all a matter of how much we are willing to pay for the product. The one thing will eventually wear out on every computer is the HD. No question, run it long enough it will die. The Western Digital guy told me years ago, they could build a 20 year HD. Guaranteed.
