With all this talk of resetting the Mac when it hangs, you have in fact tried the Force Quit option first... right?!? I assume yes because it was mentioned that relaunching the Finder didn't help. But it is worth saying as a reminder to all to try a Force Quit before a force reboot. Force Quit is achieved via the Force Quit menu choice, or via Command-Option-Esc. Often if an application is hung, you can't do it from inside that application, click to another running application (or start one via the Dock if it lets you), and do a Force Quit from inside it. In OS X Force Quit does not mean "This application where I called it" like in previous versions. Rather it brings up a menu of running apps and allows you to pick the one to kill (much like Windows and the Task Manager). This can also be done via the Shell or even via remote if you have remote telnet or SSH enabled (I do, that way when my iMac really hangs, I can get in via another machine and kill off the offending process via command line). I'm sure all this is common knowledge, but it is something that bears mentioning on the off chances that someone doesn't know about it (I'm sure there is at least one head slapper reading this who has been enlightened with new knowledge) -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
